Dane E. Johnsonpractices animal law statewide from Portland, Oregon. He is admitted to practice in all Oregon state courts and the federal District Court for the District of Oregon. During law school, Mr. Johnson clerked in the Animal Legal Defense Fund's Criminal Justice Section, helping prosecutors in animal cruelty cases and advocating for legal rights for animals. He also served as lead law clerk in the Oregon Department of Justice Trial Division, Torts and Employment Law Section. Mr. Johnson was an Associate Editor of the University of Oregon School of Law’s flagship Oregon Law Review and one of seventeen graduates in his class to earn admission to the Order of
the Coif. Considered one of the highest honors a law student can receive, the Order of the Coif is a national honor society for law school graduates at member institutions. Mr. Johnson is an Executive Committee member of the Oregon State Bar's Animal Law Section, where he has been a speaker on current cases in animal law from around the country. His publications include an article in the University of Oregon Law Review on effects of the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act on protected protest speech, as well as an article on copyright in nonhuman-created works in Lewis and Clark Law School’s Animal Law Review.
